'peace which passeth all understanding'

FLOWER FOR SHINE
(Key of G, verse: D/A/G, chorus: F #/Bm/G/G, fade out: G/E)

D-A-G repeat

Carry my arms
Away up to you
Break open the sky
Into something new

Drink from my cup
Of gold and mud
Cover the land
With something other than blood

Bland coffee hours
Between sand and the towers
& everything falls into the human heart
While the wheel runs around & you play your part

So burn the sky
And drown the word
That mountain won’t cry
For your bluebird

I’m gonna write you down
Into a beautiful pearl
And send your voice & crown
Out over the world

And the moon tide will stand still
And no one will shout or call
And like grist for the endless mill
The sunlight will turn to nightfall

F#-Bm-G-G
And I am fast
Approaching the paradoxical abyss
Of the luminescent paradisaical kiss
& while your soul is caressed by mine
I still find myself a broken battle line

G-E   (Fade out)
But I got the flower
Flower of life
And it’s still spinning
Spinning in my mind

But I got the flower
Flower of life
And it’s still spinning
Spinning in my mind

But I got the flower
Flower of life
And it’s still spinning
Spinning in my mind

The God of Soldiers

Distant Mountains (key of C)
G-Em-G-Em-G-Em-G-Em-C-Am-C-Am- G-Em-G-Em

Well people are more distant than mountains to me
And life it ain't nothing but insanity
And love; oh love is the endless fountain
And loneliness is the name of life’s battleground mountain
And loneliness is the name of life’s battleground mountain

I’m lost in the trees and I’m reaching to see
So many things that I still want to be
There is streetlights a waving, rippling the wheat
We’re all alone & Machiavelli he’s still king
We’re all alone & Machiavelli he’s still king

Chorus
F-C-F-C-Dm-G-Dm-G (return c-f9-g back to verse)
And all the world
And all the world
Does drink it’s woes with thee
Does drink it’s woes with me

So raise up your cup on the bark with the beam
For the sun fills her sails, the crow’s nest will buy your dream
I’m broken down in the heart of the Puget Sound
I lie next to nothing and Zeus, he bears the crown
I lie next to nothing and Zeus, he bears the crown

There’s a crazy man dancing with a loaded gun shoe
I don’t see any reason for your drone right out of the blue
Well I’ll take the boneyard with a view of the lake
Well I’m talking of God’s land and times lonely heartbreak
Well I’m talking of God’s land and times lonely heartbreak

And all the world
And all the world
Does drink it’s woes with thee
Does drink it’s woes with me

Swimming to a new place through roadways filled with mud
Soft silent admonishment from ghosts and mothers and drugs
I don’t even know why I’m even here for love
& it’s spread over all the earth with an opened velvet glove
& it’s spread over all the earth with an opened velvet glove

Cast your way right back into the heavenly stars
Away from the black and white avenue of bars
Spinning away across the heavens of time
And know thyself hiding in the songs endless rhyme
And know thyself hiding in the songs endless rhyme

And all the world
And all the world
Does drink it’s woes with thee
Does drink it’s woes with me

So empty out the sand that runs into the sea
The oil bird skeleton is screaming up at me
And I’m hiding out in the eye of the storm
I’m playing in the sound of the silent new born
I’m playing in the sound of the silent new born

There’s a ring for the bee wrapped up in a cloth
There’s a coal on a string and graveyards enough
I am waiting for the last place the old man can be
You know it’s not every day you’re offered a white horse in a tree
You know it’s not every day you’re offered a white horse in a tree

And all the world
And all the world
Does drink it’s woes with thee
Does drink it’s woes with thee

Lost Highway

Erebos

Robot Mirror

Ophelia

Like fair Ophelia in her later days, beneath the cracked branch
And floating under the willow shade with thorn and oaken land
Incapable of her own distress and babbling songs of goo
While drowning slowly her garments filled with water where she lay
And died pretending all was well at the closing of the day

And now we play and drive and fly across the world
Gathering black blood and singing novel songs
While the science story sells,  "any day now"
And we are incapable of our own distress, blind to the gathering winds
Like marvelously innocent children

And the days are too warm
And the diseases are spreading
And the law is without morality
or common human decency

And the land is without water
And the food is growing scarce
And the army is attacking
enemies of its own creation

So hearing this the fall gathers dust to sweep up her crowns
And laughs at the temple of Eoster's forgotten flowers
Away to the winds with you my sweet dears!
The trumpet calls sounded and the moons are blood red
The furies await behind the veil of worlds
And the days have entered the dream of the Gods
